Artadi Wineries, return to Bilbao, and another Michelin experience

Saving our guide Armin’s best for last, we visited Artadi vineyards. I can’t say enough about this location, very close to our hotel. Having a family tradition is something that Europe clings to in general, and rightfully so. After all, this is the birth place of great wines, modifying wines when climate changes or blights arise. There is a pride in the tradition that just isn’t the same as American…putting a finger on it is hard, but it’s different.

Again, the grapes. They vineyards are meticulously maintained, tested, retested. The wines have quite a range of aging, storage, and most are excellent acquisitions for a special cellar. And, of course, I joined their cellar club. Specifically, if you can get your hands on a bottle of St. Cecilia, buy it.

Alas it was time to return to Bilbao, hammer out a little shopping, you know, then go to a Michelin star restaurant. Zortziko is a beautiful establishment with all the pampering expected of a Michelin star restaurant. Inventive, lovingly prepared items pictured below including foie mousse, baby squids, and a brick of a brownie with pistachio and orange gelato.
