Bernina express

Fathers Day, 2023. I wanted Tim to have a great day as he gets very anxious when we are places without the kids. We were at Lake Como, not too far from the tiny mountain towns at the foothills of the Pyrenees and Swiss Alps. UNESCO heritage travel has a breathtaking itinerary from northern Italy to St. Moritz in Switzerland in a 4 hour trip. Please book in advance and choose the seats in the cabins with the expansive windows because the extra $ is so worth it.

We started off in the village of Tirano near the Swiss border. They run the actual Bernina only a couple times a day but if you have scheduling conflicts, there are also international Amtrak type trains that use a similar route but just not quite so stunning.

As you progress into Switzerland, the scenery becomes so amazing you think someone is messing with you. They have overpriced wine and snacks on the train but also give you a souvenir tin train full of Swiss chocolates. I am just going to leave you with the pictures. Allow the whole day.

Word of notice, in the off season, St. Moritz is a ghost town. I don't wear Prada or Hermes so I didn't care, but if you want to see the stars and drop 20k on a purse, go during ski season.

We had an amazing lunch mountainside in a golf club that was otherwise completely empty. On my search for the name, I was having trouble because this was the point of the trip where notetaking was iffy. Kulm Country club is apparently correct, although I think it has changed ownership.
